4. Over the Rockies

12.26.14

We departed Zion early, in the dark, and with snow flurries.  It only got worse from there…  More snow and more ice.

After Grand Junction it was a beautiful drive up into the Rockies with spectacular views!

Just after this photo the weather set in!  Note: Always use anti-freeze wiper fluid!  Snow, slush, ice, rain, wind and no visibility.  At one point Meg saved the moment by throwing water across the windshield, clearing my vision, and we made it into yet another gas station.

We made it to Colorado Springs after 13 hours – safe but exhausted.

3. Christmas

12.24.14 – 12.25.14

Rye and Kellie took Petie on a hike along the Hurricane Rim and then up to Monkey Launch Point where the space program began.

That evening we enjoyed a Thai dinner with Wendy and Corey in Springdale.  We awoke to a White Christmas amid the red cliffs of Zion.

Later that evening the entire group (15 in all) gathered together for Christmas dinner at the Spotted Dog.

We departed the Lorimers early and drove out into the Mojave where we made an overnight camp.  The next morning we drove into St. George, Utah where we spent some quality time at the Dodge Dealership getting the Cruise Control fixed.

We departed home with a quick stop to visit our long time friend Diana, from Hawaii, who was in Thousand Oaks with family.  Then we bombed south to Maureen and Mikes place for a Christmas dinner with the family.
